The Idealist

Style Frames for Animated Short Film

When I was studying engineering at a University, I really wanted to participate in the space program. However, I realized I belong at an art school. Yet, I never gave up on my love for the stars and science education. To instill my love for the future into the minds of younger generations, I was inspired to create this concept for a short animation that tells the story of wonder and imagination through the eyes of an astronaut.

Process

For this sequence, I relied on my texturing, lighting, and atmospherics knowledge in Arnold. Initially, I pushed for a hyper-realistic look, but a semi-stylized look with hi-contrast, bloom, and exaggerated atmospheric effects created dream-like imagery. I believe that this helped represent the inspirational message I wished to convey
