The Grand Budapest Hotel

Title Sequence | Group Project

Composition | 3D Scene Construction

The Grand Budapest Hotel is a lighthearted movie, with dark undertones. Our group wanted to exaggerate that aspect of the film through one of its central characters, Gustav. The sequence reveals and presents Gustav’s trophy fetishes, and highlights Gustav’s predatory side toward older, lonely women.

Process Shots

For this title sequence, we focused on photography mixed with 3D to reach our design goals. I was responsible for the compositing work on the images and constructing the last scene in C4D. The main difficulty in creating the scene was matching the lighting, color grading for the slowly building “creepy” mood we wanted to achieve
